Trevor's GuesthousePoinkros village, South PentecostPoinkros (Point Cross) village lies on a beautiful, windswept point of land at the very southern tip of Pentecost Island. There's a touch of the Scottish Highlands about this friendly and isolated place, which overlooks wave-splashed outcrops of rock interspersed with sandy beaches and backed by deep green forest.
The guesthouse here is run by the amiable David Torsul, Member of Parliament for South Pentecost, and his son Trevor. It's a simple but comfortable place, traditionally built with a shower and toilet outside. Good home-cooked meals are provided, and there are also plans to build a self-catering kitchen in future.
Getting thereThere are no proper roads to Poinkros, but David and Trevor own a motorboat and can easily arrange transport to and from other parts of southern Pentecost.
Alternatively it's a long and scenic hike to Poinkros from Pangi or Ranwas. However, a guide is necessary, and parts of the route (particularly the clifftop path along the south-west coast between Ranputor and Wanurr) are dangerous in wet conditions. CostsAccommodation at Trevor's Guesthouse costs 1000 vatu per person per night. ContactThere is no telephone in Poinkros, but those wishing to get in touch can ring nearby Wanurr village on (+678) 38424 and ask Evelyn to pass on a message. |
