Pentecost Island, Vanuatu

Sunrise Guesthouse

Ranwas village, South-east Pentecost

The Sunrise Guesthouse is believed to be the only accommodation on Pentecost from which you can see the sunrise. This is because it is located not on the comparatively developed western side of the island, but on the wild and rugged east coast, known to locals as the Big Sea.

Few tourists visit the eastern side of Pentecost, which is one of the most isolated and traditional places on Earth. However, those who do are rewarded with spectacular scenery, a rich cultural experience and deep, genuine hospitality.

Sunrise Guesthouse

The Sunrise Guesthouse consists of two attractive traditional bungalows built in a breezy clearing in the forest, on the site of an ancient village. A fascinating variety of trees surround the guesthouse, through which there are glimpses of the ocean.

The Sunrise Guesthouse provides an excellent base for bush trekking, learning about local traditions, or visiting the custom village of Bunlap, which is only a short distance away. Visitors who arrive at the right time of year might also get the opportunity to witness land-diving, a unique South Pentecost custom.

Getting there

The Sunrise Guesthouse is on the outskirts of Ranwas village, one of the few places on the east coast of Pentecost that is accessible by road. Transport by 4WD truck can be arranged from Lonorore Airport and other parts of southern Pentecost.

Costs

Accommodation at Sunrise Guesthouse costs 1500 vatu per person per night. Additional fees may apply for tours and activities.
