Ske language

Introduction · Alphabet · Word list

There is no tradition whatsoever of writing in Ske language. However, an attempt at orthography design was made by Catriona Hyslop of USP during a brief visit in 2001.

The letters of Ske, with their approximate IPA equivalents, are given below...

Sounds of Ske

There is prenasalisation of b to [mb], bw to [mbw] and d to [nd]. Under Catriona Hyslop's orthography, these prenasalisations are never written explicitly (so one should write "abis" not "ambis"), but locals do prefer to write them in some words.

In media where the letter g-macron is difficult to reproduce (including this web site, where I have to insert a special picture wherever I want it to appear), ngg can be used as a substitute.
